Australia Day 4: Sydney to Melbourne

According to the itinerary planned, we were supposed to just sleep late and have brunch before heading to the airport to catch a plane to Melbourne.... However, this Yun wanted to go to Mrs Macquaries Chair because it is said to have the best view of Opera House and Harbour Bridge! From all the previous photos, you will see that we either take with the Opera House or the Harbour Bridge but never both together! But from Mrs Macquaries Chair, you will be able to take photo with both Opera House and Harbour Bridge together at the background! We were supposed to go there the first day buy we skipped that because of the rain. Hence the three of us decided to wake up really early to go to Mrs Macquaries Chair and be back to the hotel on time to meet with my parents and bro (who didn't wanna wake up early for Mrs Macquaries) to go to the airport.

On the way to Mrs Macquaries Chair

Sitting on Mrs Macquaries Chair! Such a huge chair!! *haha* The chair is actually a stone structure where one of the Governor of New South Wales in the early days, Major-General Lachlan Macquarie's wife favourite place to sit and enjoy the beautiful view and looking at incoming ships from England.

Views from Mrs Macquaries Chair! Opera House and Harbour Bridge just next to each other!

View of Sydney CBD

Then after taking loads of photos (since we went all the way there!! Me walking in boots some more!!) we then rushed back to the hotel. My dad was busy choosing abalone at Chinatown (which is nearby to our hotel). After that we had a quick lunch and went to the airport to catch the flight to Melbourne!

Abalone and Sharkfins on display

The abalone that my dad bought! YUMZ

While at the airport waiting for our flight, we walked around and guess what we found!! We found Harry!! *hehe* Remember in my Day 1 post, I mentioned that we actually wanted to go to Harry's Cafe de Wheels but didn't because of the rain? We still get to try it at the airport!! =D *yeay!*

Meat pie with mashed peas! I actually don't really like peas but this actually tasted quite good!! =D

Oh and I just couldn't resist a Krispy Kreme when I see one! They have it at the airport as well!

We arrived at Melbourne in the late afternoon, after checking in to our hotel, we took the free tourist trams to do some sight seeing.... however, half way to our destination the tram stopped and there was a traffic jam of trams!!! The trams couldn't move and created a jam because there was a fire at one of the building down the road!! What a coincident!!

Tram traffic jam!!

So we have to get off the tram and walk. Anyway, since the Melbourne CBD area isn't that big anyway, so it’s ok!

State Library of Victoria

Melbourne is so different from Sydney!! Melbourne is just sooooo full of students!! Not really just uni students but a lot of those young college students!! Most of these students are not locals as well!! A lot of Hong Kees!! You can hear cantonese almost everywhere!! There are also a lot a lot of restaurants and shopping in Melbourne!! (However, the stuff ain’t cheap eh!! Maybe cause there is no sales! And also their stuff are one season late!! Because of the opposite in season compared to Europe and US! But food in Melbourne is generally cheaper than in Sydney!!)

Melbourne Town Hall

St Paul's Cathedral

Flinders Street Station

Federation Square

After walking around, we then have dinner at the famous Vietnamese Beef Noodle Shop, Mekong. I think it is nice but Shan thinks that the Vietnamese Beef Noodles near her house in London is nicer!! *haha* I think it’s famous because Bill Clinton ate there before!! *hehe*

Other side dishes that we ordered.
